During a wedding day, I love when the time comes for bride and groom portraits. When I enter the wedding photography world, I was asked by another photographer to describe my wedding photography style and I was stomped! It took me awhile to figure out what my photography style was because when I was getting started I was to busy looking at “rockstar” photographer work and trying to come close to that look. However, I wasn’t being true to my self. I wasn’t happy with what I was doing. My bride and groom loved their photos and the they were properly expose but I wasn’t happy with I was seeing when I got home. I felt that I was to busy trying to remember what poses I wanted to do then trying to bring out the best in my clients. Five years ago I decided to stop worrying about what everyone else was doing and do me! I started interacting more with my bride and groom and notice that they were getting very comfortable with having me and my camera around. I LOVED what I was producing because the pictures that I was now making were about the couple not about the pose : ) I started to see true emotions, reals smiles and giggles and this is what I wanted to be doing all along!
I now approach all of my wedding this way. I would say that about 90% of the day I capture the wedding candidly but I also need to get formal portraits for my couples. My goals is to make sure that my couples look relax, happy and in love. After family formal and bridal party pictures are done, I go with my couples and we walk and talk and take pictures. I try finding great spots with awesome light and let my couples interact naturally with each other. Some couples might need more guidance then other to fall into a natural pose and I will guide them, however my goals is never to put them in a pose that they look unnatural and uncomfortable. I want to make sure that my couples end up with beautiful portraits that are classic, real and timeless. Now if am asked to describe my photography style,I will describe it as as fun, raw, emotional and romantic.
Below are some bride and groom portraits that I love : )
